For several years the British Council Latvia has been establishing a productive co-operation with Education and Information Services of Rīga City that offers different courses to improve professional skills for teachers.

In 2018, several trainings were organised, including an experience exchange visit to Leeds in Great Britain.

A master class by Nikky Smedley, teacher, director and choreographer, was organised on 21 August 2018 for Rīga City teachers to discuss the development of creativity in English classes at primary level. 25 teachers participated at the event.

On 9 – 13 December 2018 experience exchange visit to Leeds was organised for teachers from Latvia. 13 participants from Rīga City educational institutions visited the UK and were acquainted with the work organisation in four schools in Leeds: the Allerton CE Primary School, the Allerton High School, the Rosebank Primary School and the Cockburn School. Education professionals from Latvia and Great Britain together discussed leadership and improvement of teacher professional competences. The teachers from Latvia had an opportunity to visit open classes and to participate in task groups.
